AROUND THE BAY 2008

When I ran this race last year, I was at the top of my game... I knew this year would be a totally different story...

I'm not going to make this LSD-race report long. I had the chance to run with 2 friends, one for the first 15K, then 10K by myself (but still talking to strangers lol) and the last 4-5 K or so with another maniac friend. I took 2 Anacin during the race so that my plantar fasciitis wouldn't bother me, it was a wise choice as I didn't feel any pain or calf cramping. My legs were just overall fatigued from the rolling hills. Altough I said to myself I wouldn't be disappointed with my time, I kinda are, I finished 20 mins slower than last year.I guess they are also right about the rule that each pound adds 1 mins to your time... I am 20 lbs heavier this year!

This stays my favorite race, I love everything about it and the weather was fantastic this year... except for the 30-35 Km/h winds ;-)

Oh yeah I wanted to say that near the end of the race, I meet with a French speaking 72 years old man, who was finishing his 27th Around the Bay race and I found him really inspiring! =)

I'm glad you had a great time. Don't worry about the chip time. You'll get back into it. It sounds like you've had a busy schedule and injuries/sickness play a huge factor. Too bad I didn't see you but it was a huge crowd, wasn't it? I wouldn't underplay a 3:40. That's a very respectable time!

Sonia, I think you did great! I am a few pounds heavier than I was six months ago, but for some reason I am still faster now than I was then. Of course, I am still trying to get that extra weight, plus some, off of me. Why does it have to be so hard??!!

AWESOME JOB CHICA!!! Especially with all you've been through leading up to this :-) 20 minutes off your previous time (when you were on top of your game) is EXCELLENT!! There is no shame in those numbers :-)

you went to have fun and you enjoyed yourself so that's all that really matters. You seem to have run a pretty even pace throughout (I was tracking both yours and yumkes split times) so you ran a pretty good race even if it was a bit slower than last year.

There is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of in yet another accomplishment. The courage it takes to put on your shoes, step up to the start line, and then run your heart out after a much more hectic year than your "top of the game" year is nothing short of inspiring.
Keep up the good work.

It sounds like you did great Sonia - 20 min or not. Those winds sound brutal, that could be all the difference right there. I'm glad you had such a fun time though. Those make for the best races! I'll have to keep this race on my radar for the future. Let me know if you do head to QC. It would be great to meet up!

You still did it!! As you know there are a million little variables that go into your time and how you race. The wind probably played more of an affect than you realize on your time. I think you ROCKED. GREAT JOB!!

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I really appreciate it... I've been doing lot of thinking about my running and since the past year has been so challenging health wise and study wise, I'v decided to just be thankful that I can pull a 30K race on such bad training! lol

I *know* not all races are going to be PB but it is still hard to accept.
